Licensing
A licensing claim is useful only when you can match it to an official record for the relevant entity, product and jurisdiction. A logo or marketing statement alone is not verification.
Identify the operating legal entity and claimed regulator, find the regulator's own register, then compare the record's status, domain, product and geographic scope with the service being reviewed.
Begin with the operator's terms or corporate disclosures to identify the exact legal entity. Record the regulator and any license or registration identifier the operator claims; similar brand names can belong to different entities.
Search the regulator's official register directly, not only a badge or a third-party summary. Compare the entity name and identifiers, current status, authorized domain, product/activity and covered locations. A record for one entity or service does not automatically cover every brand product.
Note the date checked and link the claim to the exact register entry. If the entity, status, domain or scope cannot be matched, describe it as unverified rather than concluding that a license exists or does not exist. This method helps evaluate evidence; it is not legal advice.
Licensing-evidence checklist
- Name the legal entity from current operator documents
- Identify the claimed regulator and record identifier
- Open the regulator's official register
- Match status, domain, product/activity and jurisdiction
- Save the source and check date; label gaps as unverified
Signals that need a closer check
- A badge links only to a marketing page
- The entity name differs or is omitted
- The record covers a different domain or product
- The register status or date cannot be confirmed
Keep a claim only when the official record can be matched to the exact entity and service being discussed.
