SEPA

The European Payments Council defines the SEPA Credit Transfer scheme and maintains its rulebook. Standard and instant credit-transfer services are distinct; the timing, cut-offs, fees, and merchant acceptance shown by your payment provider are the current practical reference.

SEPA Credit Transfer provides a common scheme for euro credit transfers among participating payment service providers. A scheme name alone does not tell you whether a particular account can send or receive a payment, whether a provider offers an instant variant, or what its interface will display.

Before confirming a transfer, verify the beneficiary name and IBAN, the amount and currency, any reference requested by the recipient, and the transfer type selected. The EPC scheme rulebook describes inter-provider rules; your bank or payment provider explains the service available to your account and any charges it applies.

If an account is debited but the recipient does not see the payment, keep the bank reference and check the status with your provider. Do not assume a merchant has credited the payment simply because the transfer was submitted. A merchant may need the exact reference or a separate reconciliation step.

Before sending a SEPA transfer

• Confirm the payee, IBAN, amount, and currency
• Check whether the selected service is standard or instant
• Review provider cut-offs, fees, and confirmation screen
• Keep the payment reference until the recipient confirms credit

Avoid timing assumptions

• SEPA scheme membership does not mean every payment is instant
• Merchant acceptance and account availability are separate checks
• Submitted, settled, and merchant-credited are different statuses
