Open Banking
Open banking describes a way for a user-authorized service to access or initiate financial data or payments through a connected provider. The exact flow depends on the banks and payment service involved.
Before approving, check the provider name, amount, currency, requested permissions, and return destination. Use your bank's own authentication screen and review the payment service's privacy and cancellation instructions.
A connected payment flow can involve several parties: the merchant, a payment initiator, and your bank. Confirm which organization is asking for consent and what data or action you are authorizing; do not approve a prompt you did not start.
Look for the amount and recipient on the bank confirmation itself, not only on the merchant page. If you are sharing account data rather than authorizing a single payment, read the scope and duration of access and how to revoke it through the bank or service.
If a payment remains pending or is rejected, save the reference and check the status with the bank and merchant. Do not repeat the authorization until you know whether the first request completed or is still processing.
Before granting consent
- Recognize the payment provider and bank destination
- Confirm amount, currency, recipient, and requested scope
- Authenticate only in the bank's official flow
- Know where to review or revoke access
Protect the authorization step
- Do not approve an unexpected consent prompt
- Do not share bank passwords or authentication codes with a merchant
- Do not assume every open-banking flow supports refunds or withdrawals
Review the consent screen and your bank's confirmation carefully; if the provider or requested access is unclear, cancel and verify it first.
