Check the recipient name or payment request, the amount, and the instructions in your own bank or credit-union app. Use only the institution's official sign-in flow, and contact your financial institution about a transfer or account issue.

Interac describes e-Transfer as a way to send money using online or mobile banking at participating Canadian financial institutions. A notification may arrive by email or text, but the actual payment and status are handled through the participating institution's banking flow.

Before accepting or sending, verify the recipient details and amount using a channel you trust. If a security question is used, Interac advises that its answer should not be sent in email or text. Never disclose banking credentials, one-time codes, or a password in response to an unsolicited message.

A bank transfer can show a notification before you have independently confirmed its status. Check the transaction history in your bank app and retain the reference. Interac's public help directs transaction or account troubleshooting to the financial institution; a merchant's payment support may separately need its own reference.
