ERC20
ERC-20 is a fungible-token standard for Ethereum smart contracts. It describes how compatible tokens expose common functions; it is not a promise that every wallet or service supports every token.
For a transfer, confirm the exact token contract or asset name, the Ethereum network expected by the recipient, the address, and the current gas estimate.
The standard supports common token operations such as transfers and balance checks. A token's ticker can be copied or reused, so identify the intended asset from a trusted issuer or the recipient's own instructions.
Ethereum transactions require network fees, and the amount can differ by transaction type and network conditions. The wallet's current preview is more useful than a fixed fee example.
A token sent to an unsupported recipient or through an unsupported route may not be recoverable. Verify before signing rather than treating a successful wallet submission as proof of credit.
Before signing
- Confirm token identity and Ethereum network
- Compare the recipient address character by character
- Review gas fee and total debit
- Save the transaction hash
Common mix-ups
- ERC-20 is not itself a currency name
- An address format alone does not prove recipient support
- A submitted transaction is not the same as a credited deposit
Use the recipient's network instructions and Ethereum's current transaction guidance to validate the transfer.
