Crypto Volatility
A crypto price can change between deciding, sending, and receiving. Separate the asset's market movement from network fees, platform conversion rules, and transaction status.
Before a transaction, check the asset amount, displayed fiat estimate, conversion timing, and any service-specific valuation rule. A quoted estimate is not necessarily the amount that will be credited or available later.
A balance measured in a token and its estimated value in a fiat currency answer different questions. The token quantity may stay the same while its market value moves; a platform may also use a particular conversion point or accounting method described in its terms.
Network fees are separate from market price changes and can vary with the route and current network conditions. Review the final confirmation screen and compare the amount sent, fee, and expected amount received rather than relying on a quote captured earlier.
For records, note the asset, quantity, time, and transaction identifier. When comparing options, use the same timestamp and unit; otherwise two price estimates may look inconsistent even when each reflects a different moment or route.
Before comparing values
- Token quantity versus fiat estimate
- Timestamp and conversion rule
- Network/service fee shown separately
- Final amount and transaction record
Avoid false precision
- Do not treat an earlier price quote as guaranteed
- Do not combine market movement and network fee into one unexplained difference
- Do not assume every service values or converts an asset the same way
Use the current confirmation screen and the provider's terms to understand the amount, valuation point, and fees before proceeding.
